In 2007, a spirited 19-year-old named Hoang Long Vu—better known as Luke—took a leap of faith, leaving Vietnam for Australia with big dreams and a heart full of hope. Inspired by his parents' dedication to creating better opportunities, he arrived ready to embrace a new adventure.

Growing up in a family of bakers, Luke was surrounded by the craft of breadmaking from an early age. When he found work at a local bakery, the familiar aroma of freshly baked bread transported him back to his childhood, reigniting his passion for Bánh Mì. He wanted to immerse himself in the craft even more, but as a student on a visa, his work hours were limited, making every shift an opportunity to learn and refine his skills.

As an international student in a new country, Luke faced moments of loneliness and cultural barriers. While settling into life in Australia, he found that food became more than just nourishment—it was a connection to home. The memories of joyful family gatherings in Vietnam, where Bánh Mì was always at the centre, became a source of comfort and inspiration.

Determined to make the most of his new life, Luke balanced his studies with hands-on experience at the bakery, where he honed his skills. Without formal culinary training, he relied on passion, creativity, and a love for great food to guide him. His journey wasn’t just about learning to bake—it was about embracing a craft that had been part of his family for generations.

After years of dedication, Luke graduated as an Accountant with CPA qualifications, marking a significant achievement. But the call of the kitchen was stronger than ever. His love for Bánh Mì and the sense of community it fostered led him to a new purpose: bringing authentic Vietnamese flavours to Australia.

In June 2022, Luke's Bánh Mì (previously known as Luke’s Vietnamese) was born—a third-generation family bakery where every Bánh Mì is crafted with love. Using treasured family recipes and the freshest ingredients, our baguettes are baked daily to deliver a true taste of Vietnam.
